Barcelona follows Aalborg into the final game of the royal class

Outsider Aalborg Handbold takes the European Handball crown completely by surprise, but in Cologne he is now dealing with record winner FC Barcelona.

The Danes won the semi-finals against favorites Paris St. Germain with 35:33 (13:15) at their first Final Four in the Champions League. Barca then fought against the HBC Nantes from France with 31:26 (15:13). The final game rises on Sunday evening (18:00 clock/DAZN).

The Swedish national player Felix Claar was the best underdog shooter who had eliminated the SG Flensburg Handewitt in the quarter finals with eight hits. Aalborg can now crown earlier than planned with the title –actually the club wanted to start attacking from the next season and has already committed the superstars Aron Palmarsson and Mikkel Hansen (from 2022).

“We have worked in this game”, Captain Henrik Molllgaard said at “DAZN”: “When we smelled the chance then we seized it.” The debutante was nervous at the initial stage -“Claar only reached the first goal for the Jews in the tenth minute.

Aalborg, who had previously lost each of the four comparisons against Paris, took advantage of a weakness phase of the title candidate in the second pass and turned the game ten minutes before the end for the first time. In a hot final phase, the Danes saved the short lead over time.

With every five hits, the French quarterback Dika Mem and the Spanish right-winger Aleix Gomez were the best pitchers for the nine-time champion Barcelona, who celebrated his 60th victory in the 60th season. After the final defeat in December against the THW Kiel, the team of trainer Xavi Pascual, leaving after twelve years, is once again in the final of the royal class.
