The German Cup winner SG Flensburg-Handewitt meets the third-highest TV Korschenbroich in the first round of the DHB Cup. This resulted in the draw after the Cup Reform in Dortmund.
In addition, the Champions League winner from the previous year must compete against the TV Emsdetten in the first-round tournament in Final4 mode. The German record champion THW Kiel first meets the VfL Fredenbeck and then the winner of the TuSEM Essen match against DHK Flensburg. The first round is played on August 15th/16th. The final (30.April/1. May 2016) remains in Hamburg.
Unlike in recent years, the Cup year begins with 16 tournaments in Final-4 mode and the direct entry of the respective tournament winner into the Eighth Final. The two finalists drawn from Lostopf have the right to hold the respective tournament, in the event of a forfeiture, the team from Lostopf succeeds three as organiser. The grouping into the bins divided in North and South was based on the table space from the previous season.
