Formula one boss confirmed: race from 2022 in Miami

It’s official: Formula One makes its way to Miami from next year and gets its long-awaited second race in the USA. After years of negotiations, the Motorsport Royal Class announced on Sunday the agreement for a race in the metropolis of the U.S. state of Florida. The contract is over ten years, the exact date of the race is not yet fixed.

We are thrilled that formula 1 will run from 2022 in Miami,”formula 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali says:”The US is a growing core market for us. We are happy with our growth in the USA, which is certainly driven by this exciting second race.”

The agreement now reached provides for a 5,41 kilometer long course around the Hard Rock stadium, The line is intended to include 19 curves, three straight lines and three potential DRS zones. The maximum speed should be at 320 km/h. The announcement will advertise with “high-speed lines, multiple overtaking possibilities and exciting racing”.

formula 1 as another top event for Miami

“The Hard Rock Stadium Entertainment Campus in Miami Gardens exists to host the biggest events to benefit the entire Miami region. And no bigger than formula 1,”Tom Garfinkel, managing partner of the Formula One race in Miami, is quoted.

There has been a collaboration”with specialized designers”to create a line, which, in our opinion and in the opinion of Formula 1 and FIA, will allow great racing and provide a special fishing experience that reflects the dynamic nature of Miami,”says Garfinkel, who is also Managing Director of Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium.

Since the takeover of formula 1 by US marketer Liberty Media in the year 2017, a second race in the USA has been at the top of the owners’wish list. The series is currently hosted only in the Texas capital of Austin. In February Domenicali had spoken of advanced negotiations, but did not yet want to settle on a venue.

Because of the Corona pandemic, the plans for a race in Miami had been put on ice first last autumn. Instead, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix for 2021 was re-entered in the calendar. This year the record number of 23 races will take place for the first time.
