Before the start of the round in the Bundesliga, the coach of the German champion Rhein-Neckar Lion, Nikolaj Jacobsen, has criticized the stress of the Champions League mode.
“Currently the Champions League with its many games is not a sporting fair competition. Practically all starters who do not come from the Bundesliga have an advantage because they are little or no demanded at national level,”Jacobsen told the”Mannheimer Morgen”.
Alone in the preliminary round each team has to play in a back group 14 encounters. The top six qualify for the next round. That is why Jacobsen would even buy difficult duels against federal leagues.
“For us, it would be the ideal case to play against THW Kiel in the eighth finals and meet SG Flensburg Handewitt in the quarter finals. Because then we would meet teams with the same starting position,”he said. Jacobsen would prefer a system with eight four groups. The lions start on Thursday (19:00 clock) against defending champion Vive Kielce in the Champions League in the second half of the season.
