Supported by a heavy patsy of goalkeeper Alexander Nuel, RB Leipzig remains close to the Federal League table leader Bavaria Munich. On Saturday the Saxons won 5:0 (1:0) at Schalke 04 and still have a counter behind the record master from Munich.
After only 55 seconds the future Bavarian Nebula missed a distance shot by Marcel Sabitzer and let pass the not particularly placed ball. Even after that, the Keeper did not seem safe at the first Schalker home location since August. At first, he dropped a ball without pressure (10), then sailed after a corner shot into the void (25).
The fans reacted with whistles. Against Timo Werner’s shot in the corner (61.) was hardly chance-free, Marcel Halstenberg (68.) increased steadily per head. In the end it went as in the training: Angelino (80.) was still allowed to score his first goal for RB, Emil Forsberg reached the finish line (89.).

More on this: The net reactions to FC Schalke vs. RB Leipzig
Schalke, who has been waiting for a win for five games and has remained fearlessly harmless again on the offensive, threatens to slip out of the international ranks. S04 has now reached no goal in four of the last five league divisions, which has also reduced the delay to the seven-place TSG Hoffenheim to just two more meters.
Schalke does not miss any gate chances
The guests who had won the champions league in the last year’s finalist Tottenham Hotspur during the week, played the early hit in the cards. Coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team largely controlled the game and came up with further opportunities, even without taking the last risk. Sabitzer (31,32.) after the preparation of the strong national player Werner and Patrik Schick (35.) almost missed.
Schalke fought the ball again and again in front of 61.433 spectators, but then hardly knew anything about it. The team of trainer David Wagner played too timidly and transparently. Also national player Suat Serdar could not provide a structure to his team’s game.
Leipzig leaves further chances
At half-time the statisticians counted 0:10 shots from Schalker’s point of view –the short delay to the break was still the only positive. Shortly after the reenactment, Schalke almost succeeded with the first successful attack, but Benito Raman (53) failed Peter Gulasci at the gate of the guests.
Leipzig remained the better team and could have increased through Sabitzer (56). It was better for Werner, who was freezing cold to his 21st. Seasonator changed. Soon after, Werner almost had his 22nd. Follow up the hit – this time was bad but in place (67). The next corner used Halstenberg to decide.
By now the resistance of the switches had been broken. RB, on the other hand, still offered some chances for further goals.
