The German champion Rhein-Neckar Lion and Vice-SG Flensburg-Handewitt have mastered the start of the new Bundesliga season in a sovereign way.
The Mannheimers fought again on Saturday against Cup winner SC Magdeburg 29:20 (14:7). On Wednesday the lions had already triumphed over the Magdeburgers at the Super Cup. Flensburg clearly defeated HC Erlangen with 35:23 (17:11). EHF Cup Winner Fresh On Open Games, however, disappointed. The team of trainer Magnus Andersson lost to the TSV Hannover-Burgdorf with 23:34 (11:17).
In a one-sided encounter, the lions laid the foundation stone for the victory in the first half of the season. With the superb goalkeeper Mikael Appelgren as a backstop, the Nordbadens quickly moved to 11:4 (22 minute) and controlled the game without any effort.
The lion’s best pitcher was Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson with six hits, for Magdeburg Nemanja Zelenovic met just as often. At the Flensburgers four players met five times: Holger Glandorf, Johan Jakobsson, Kentin Mahe and Lasse Svan.
Already on Friday, the foxes had opened the season in Berlin with a 27:22-game competition at the HSG Wetzlar.
