New plan for Davis Cup final round stands

The Davis Cup Final Round will be divided into three cities this year. As the ITF World Tennis Association reported on Monday, it was looking for two other European cities as a venue next to Madrid, which had the first edition of the newly created Final Tournament 2019 alone.

The national comparison of tennis men had failed 2020 because of the Corona pandemic, This year the event will be extended to eleven days and will take place from the 25th of November to the 5th of December.

The ITF plan envisages two preliminary groups and a quarter-final in each of the two new cities. In Madrid, too, there would be two preliminary groups, plus two quarterfinals, the semi-finals and the final. The amendments came from the investment company Cosmos for football star Gerard Pique, who has been funding the reformed event since 2019.

These adaptations are intended to deconstruct the game plan, which was burst from all sides during the seven-day premiere 2019. Thus, the preliminary round between the USA and Italy ended only at 4.04 o’clock at night. From 2022 onwards, the final round is to be reduced from 18 to 16 participating teams.

The German team is already qualified for this year’s issue. The team around Captain Michael Kohlmann meets in the preliminary round in Serbia with the world ranking Novak Djokovic and Austria with US Open Champion Dominic Thiem.
