Laura Siegemund has chosen the German tennis duel against Andrea Petkovic in her qualification for the Masters event in Madrid.
The 33-year-old won in the Spanish capital with 6:2, 6:4 and is thus only one victory away from jumping into the main field. For the same-age Petkovic, on the other hand, the defeat after the first loss at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart meant another setback.
So far, at the top-occupied Sandplatz event in Angelique Kerber, only one German player stands in the main field. The German number one will have to deal with the strong Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the first round. The field is led by the world ranking First Ashleigh Barty from Australia, who had recently won the title in Stuttgart.
