Vettel: My plan didn’t go through

On a day when Eintracht Frankfurt 5:1 wins against Bavaria Munich, Sebastian Vettel loses the pole position in Austin by only 0012 seconds. Does the loss on Saturday in Texas weigh less heavily after this result in the German Bundesliga?

Are we playing football here now or are we racing?, the Heppenheimer wonders laughing.

He wonders: “Was it really so boring? Don’t you have a question about qualifying? I think rain was forecast for China tomorrow. Should I comment on this as well?”Vettel continues in the press conference. I have heard that it is supposed to snow in Finland,”adds Valtteri Bottas amused.

Shortly before the start of the qualifying he learned of the strong result of his favorite club. However, this had no impact on his performance. He barely scraped past the seventh Ferrari pole in a series, but he can still enjoy his hundredth first start line.

Vettel: “My plan didn’t quite work out”

“Oh, I’m getting old!”, he points out that. He said he was happy about the Ferrari in qualifying, he had a lot of fun driving. But if you are so close to the pole, then I think Valtteri just had a little more fun today.”

Vettel was able to push himself to second place with his first Q3 attempt, the 0012 seconds delay he did not catch up in the second attempt.” I drove a very good first round, but there was a bit more in there.”

Especially in the last sector:”I was a little too conservative there,”he notes afterwards. A look at the sector times shows: Bottas gained more seconds in the third sector 0108 and ran absolute sector best time, as well as in sector 2 (-0047 seconds). Only in Sector 1, Bottas was slower than Vettel (+0143).

“Not surprisingly, there is no Ferrari on the pole”

“I guess I just wanted to make sure I got a number and start a quick round. I could do better on the second try. Unfortunately, I was unable to improve. My plan didn’t quite work out.”

While Vettel was a little closer to Bottas in his second attempt in the third sector (+0095), the Finnish man reduced his lag in sector 1 and continued to maintain the best time in sector 2. The bottom line was therefore a delay of 0, 012 seconds out.

“We wanted to continue the series,” says team leader Mattia Binotto after the time hunt. “We wanted to continue the series.” I think Bottas has gone on a fantastic lap with a great last sector. The delay was minimal, so it is not surprising that no Ferrari stands on the pole,”he says. The team wants to reverse the trend on Sunday.

FT3 changes are also supposed to help the race track

instead of not winning from the pole position -“hasn’t brought us any luck lately” -“Vettel wants to attack from starting place two.” The distance [to the first curve] looks a little shorter from the inside,”he laughs. But I have to say this as a second.”

The four-time World Champion knows he has the power advantage on his side:”Everyone says we have more power, maybe this will help us if we go uphill, because you need more power there. We’re all gonna try to get off to a good start. The fact that it’s going uphill here doesn’t really change anything, except that the braking is a little bit more tricky.”

He’s going to go next to Bottas towards curve 1. Could the Finnish want to avoid a tough duel due to the World Cup match? “No. I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ll just overtake him and then we’ll see!” Joking Fat.” If that’s what he thinks, I think I have a good chance. But it’s gonna be a long race. If I can, I will overtake.”

What makes him particularly confident are the changes he made on Saturday.” The car felt much better today than yesterday, which we needed.”Although he did not perform any longer long runs in the third training, he was hopeful, Ferrari was in the race simulation on Friday according to official calculations of formula 1 p er lap in the section 0,3 seconds behind Mercedes. “In the race simulation, Ferrari was in the race simulation with that vote.” We changed a lot this morning, which helped. That’ll help in the race, too. But we will not know exactly how this will affect Pace until tomorrow.”

Especially on the hard tyre he felt difficulties on Friday.”We simply could not get them to work, but that should not be a problem tomorrow.”
