Wolff: Fear of F1 calendar justified

In the face of the still raging Corona pandemic, there have already been initial changes and shifts for the formula-1 calendar 2021. Thus, the season air raid will not take place in Australia, whose date has changed in November, but in Bahrain. Imola, meanwhile, is in favor of China.

As the virus situation remains unclear in many countries, further adjustments in the calendar are not excluded. The fear of failures and a shortened season, as in the previous year, is also real. This fear is, of course, justified,”says Mercedes team leader Toto Wolff in a conversation with the’ORF’.

“Australia is postponed, but the Grand Prix is so important that one did not want to cancel it altogether. This will be followed at the end. And China has a general ban on major events until August. These are two factors that cannot be influenced. That is why we are starting in Bahrain,”he explains the current state.

Everything”relatively easy”in Bahrain

In Bahrain, where formula 1 ran two races against the end of the season just last year, the official pre-season test (12th to 14th March) also takes place.”In Bahrain, where formula 1 ran two races against the end of the season. We know this, and it always comes off relatively easily there,”says Wolff.

As far as the season course 2021 is concerned, he shows himself confident at least for the second half. I already assume that after the summer we will have another half normal season,”says the Mercedes team leader. The density of the planned races –currently it is 23 – but remains a challenge.

“This will certainly be extremely difficult for the racing team as well. We will have three triple-headers in a row,”the Austrian looks ahead. You won’t be home for four weeks. This is of course an enormous burden.”
